Described by José María Campos, director of “Epicur” magazine MOGADOR   1999

Three years ago, during my first trip to Priorat to research an article for my magazine, Epicur, I was lucky enough to meet René Barbier, one of the pioneers of this Spanish wine region whose importance is growing by the day. And now, René has asked me to present his 1999 Clos Mogador. It is an honour for me and I will attempt to be as sincere as I can and speak from my heart. I would like to start by saying that: “I like this wine. I really like it a lot”. So I will try to go into a little bit more detail:

Clean, beautiful and intense colour, bigarreau cherry, very deep. Its nose shows special notes of very ripe fruit with a hint of chocolate and a toasty base.

It is powerful in the mouth, plump and very flavoursome, with skilfully worked tannins which are extraordinarily balanced.

Its finish is long and exquisite. This is a wine to drink now or to put down. It is advisable to decant it for a few hours before serving.

Grape Varieties:
Grenache: 35%
Cabernet Sauvigon: 35%
Syrah: 20%
Carignan: 10%
