Gerard Basset MOGADOR   1995

November, 1997. Second place in World Sommelier awards, 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Best European Sommelier, 1996 (Tuinart Trophy), Co-owner of Winchester and Royal Tunbridge Wells Hotels du Vin in England.

This wine is of a very dense red ruby colour with an attractive purple rim. The nose is not yet fully developed, but already shows some temperament. Fig and baked plum intermingle with some spicy notes. Furthermore, a slight gamey character due to a touch of reduction adds again to the overall complexity.

The palate is rich and solid thanks to a wonderful extraction and a good tannic structure. The finish is long and attractive.

This powerful wine requires some bottle ageing but at the turn of the millennium it should be just ready to match hearty dishes such as a luscious roast lamb or a rich stew of wild boar.
